Long distance routes open up

THE dream of long distance bridleway routes in Pembrokeshire is becoming a reality.

Thanks to the work of the British Horse Society south west Wales region committee, the Pembrokeshire Bridleways and Byways Association (PBBA), Pembrokeshire County Council, and Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, a number of bridleways have been identified and cleared, improving routes for horse riders, cyclists and walkers to enjoy.

The idea of the initiative was to improve long distance trails and attract more equestrian tourists to the beautiful countryside of west Wales.

To raise the profile of these improved routes and others yet to be included, a long distance ride took place on October 14th and 15th from Amroth on the Sunday, stopping at a halfway point at Sycamores Ranch, Llawhaden before finishing on Monday afternoon in Newport.

The route travelled from coast to coast with the chance for riders to see 14 of Wales' historic castles.

At the start of the ride, Sue Enfield, chairman of the south west Wales region of the British Horse Society made a special presentation to the 1,100 member.

PBBA supports, promotes and encourages the use of bridleways and byways throughout the county.

PBBA has more than 200 members and is affiliated to the British Horse Society which has more than 1,200 members in the south west Wales region.
