Farmers feel squeeze over cheap food
NFU Cymru has welcomed the recent National Assembly for Wales debate on food price increases and increased costs of production seen by Wales' farmers.
NFU Cymru president, Mr Dai Davies said the debate was long overdue. But he pointed out: "We must however remember that although during the last 20 years retail food prices have increased by over 50%, over the same period farm gate prices have risen by only 17%, and if we factor in the effects of inflation, food is now 20% cheaper in real terms than it was 20 years ago."
