Double champions

WHICHEVER way you say it, Llysyfran YFC has proved it is the best club in Pembrokeshire after winning the English and Welsh championship trophies.

At the Pembrokeshire YFC agm, Llysyfran picked up the English championship trophy for the fourth year running after accumulating most points in competitions and categories such as personal achievements, travel, and community and charity work throughout the year.

Also, Llysyfran is the first club to get its name on the new Welsh Championship Shield which was awarded to the club accumulating the most points in the Welsh drama, public speaking and eisteddfod competitions.

The shield was donated by Carmarthen and Pumpsaint Farmers.

During the meeting, guest speaker and past member of Llysyfran YFC, Delme Harries encouraged members to make the most of their time as young farmers.

Delme, who is the chairman of Rural Youth Europe, told members about the organisation which has 500,000 members of YFC and rural youth organisations from the UK to Ukraine. He also said how proud he was to be the first Welsh chairman of the European organisation, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

The meeting also saw Stephen James named president-elect of Pembrokeshire YFC and this year's unsung hero was named.

Aled Johnson, of Eglwyswrw YFC was awarded the Wayne Mathias trophy for his outstanding contribution to the county federation and hard work behind the scenes throughout the year.

Tiers Cross YFC was awarded the Bill Black trophy for the highest increase in membership and attendance at county meetings and Llysyfran YFC picked up the trophy for best club records, with Catrin Vaughan winning the best accounts book. Diane James, of Martletwy YFC won the best minutes book cup.
